I think the craters and the cannons look better plus you can always add some green with the river. I read somewhere else where someone mentions a snow terrain which I think would be cool as well.

I would have to agree that the desert tile set is better. It reminds me of the old Dune 2000 and is even better in some ways. I’m with knelson on the snow terrain idea. Maybe it could be packaged in an expansion which would include new missions and a few new units/buildings.

Snowy was high on our list too for v1.0 but we had to focus on 2 sets so we picked grassy and desert, since they are very different from one another. Snowy would be great. Creating a tile set is hard work but if there is an experienced artist out there interesting in giving it a go, I'll help with the tool requirements.

It's not a matter of making maps, it's making the terrain pieces that you use to build a map. The minimum set of pieces, in the right shapes, with edges that match up, that also look great. It's really a lot of work. However like I said if there is an artist that can do it (and shows us), we'll help with the tools.

Myself and Darrin have been full time since this began, and Andrew has been with us since last summer. Everyone else in that list helped at various times with different things in v1.0.

so i started learning c++ (i can make a little console app, even made a few games) but im nowhere near palms.

So I signed up for a c++ class at a nearby college Very Happy

I envy you, you guys must have so much fun down there making your game Confused

It's really a lot of work. However like I said if there is an artist that can do it (and shows us), we'll help with the tools.[/quote]

Looking at the current pieces, I see these requirements:
1. Pictures need to support 320x320/320x480 64k color, 240x320 64k color, 160x160 64k color and 160x160 16 grayscale.
2. Basic terrain is a 3x3 picture repeating pattern with a pattern that melds well with the other pieces along all column and row edges.
3. Terrain Pieces are 1x1 up to 8x7 pictures that should meld well with the basic terrain. Or, these may have edges that meld well with a group of other terrain pieces.
4. Each square of a Terrain Piece has three values: Passable, Impassable, Not Used. Not Used means a transparent blank square. The passable and impassable squares of Terrain pieces cannot overlap.

We should be able provide a graphic images of each terrain pice and a list of tile dimensions and squares used.

Some Questions:
1. Did I get the device resolutions correct?
2. What are the dimensions of a square?
