Okay, there's only one word that can adequately explain the situation about spam:
w00t.
Darrin just got back from vacation and changed the registration process, which will keep those bots from signing up with new accounts. So no more spam

Nonsense. That would not be worth their time. If it was a human, he would get more views-per-registration on a more popular board. It's illogical for a human to spam here, which means its a bot.
And if it's a bot, then image-verification should stop it.
